According to toppharmacyschools, Kansas City is a city in the US state of Missouri. The population is estimated at 491,918 inhabitants (2018). It is the 36th largest city in the United States (2010). Its surface area is 811.6 km², making it the 13th largest city.

Opposite this city is its sister city Kansas City (Kansas) in the state of Kansas. Located at the outlet of the Kansas River into the Missouri River, both cities are part of the Kansas City Urban Area.

History

The city was nicknamed Tom’s Town in the 1930s in reference to the corrupt politician Tom Pendergast, who was very influential in the Democratic Party and at the same time had ties to the Kansas City crime scene. The city was a haven for several hitmen, thieves and robbers. After Pendergast’s arrest in 1939, non-partisan attorney John B. Gage was elected mayor in 1940. He remained mayor for three terms and cleaned up the city’s finances.

In January the average temperature is -3.5 °C, in July it is 25.8 °C. Annual average rainfall is 955.5 mm (data based on the measurement period 1961-1990).

Kansas City has two airports. Close to downtown is the Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport. A little further north is Kansas City International Airport.
